Abstract
Duplex coatings are used to protect galvanizing in harsh environments, provide aesthetics, and enhance corrosion protection. Surface preparation is critical to achieving long term performance, and abrasive blasting was found to be the most effective surface preparation technique. Epoxy/polyurethane coatings are commonly used as duplex coatings in highly corrosive environments, and these coatings were benchmarked against high-build polyaspartic coatings. Polyaspartic coatings were found to perform as well as epoxy/polyurethane coatings in cyclic prohesion and wet adhesion evaluations over blasted hot-dipped galvanizing substrates.
