Abstract
The performance of coatings applied to cementitious building walls is a function of both the coating itself and the integrity of the building wall assembly. This paper addresses the tests that can be conducted to assess both the condition of the exterior coating system and the building walls, including: infrared thermal imaging; moisture testing of walls and insulation; examination of sealants, coping, scuppers, gutters, and downspouts; assessment of air infiltration and exfiltration; analysis of coating thickness, adhesion and continuity (coverage, holidays, pinholes); determination of coating type; and assessing wind-driven rain resistance.
