Abstract
The use of work plans in protective coating work has been recommended by the coatings industry for many years, yet, the implementation of work plans has been sporadic, and by many accounts, ineffective. This paper will describe the results of one evaluation of the efficacy of the work plan process as a process control tool, and the lessons-learned to date. The authors concluded that while there appears to be little knowledge in the contractor community on what should be included and how to prepare a work plan, a work plan can be a valuable tool in enhancing project planning that is required to ensure the successful completion of a coating project.
