Historically, salts have been known as the “good guys” because of their use in preserving foods, in healing remedies, as spice, to protect wood, as financial currency and for use in religious rites. Today, however, in the coatings and linings industry, salts are the “bad guys” and attempts to “short circuit” Mother Nature have consumed the corrosion industry. Soluble salts are very much in the forefront of discussion in the coatings/linings industry. There is much information available on the topic, but it often is scattered in small segments so that a complete comprehension of the subject is not easy to assimilate. It is the purpose of the following to assist in bringing some of these pieces together for a greater understanding.
