Abstract
Eleven different abrasives of various generic types were characterized chemically and physically. The abrasives were then used to blast clean mill scale bearing commercial grade carbon steel panels, the surfaces of which were characterized for soluble salt contamination. Finally, the blast-cleaned panels were coated with eight different generic coating types and evaluated for blistering in a humidity cabinet.
