The use of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy combined with knowledge of coating chemistry is key for assessing chemical consistency of industrial coatings. Incomplete knowledge of coating chemistry, improper sample preparation techniques and/or instrument use, as well as improper interpretation of infrared spectra can result in inconsistent chemical comparisons of batches used for initial qualification to field batches.
