Abstract
In June of 2006 the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) implemented new volatile organic compound (VOC) requirements for industrial maintenance coatings. Two years prior to this date The California Department of Transportation started looking for a replacement latex resin that would meet these new requirements and still have the same properties as currently used industrial maintenance bridge coatings. This paper will look at the coating formulations that were examined and compare performance characteristics between them and the coatings they were designed to replace.
