Abstract
Humans have been building shelters since before recorded history. Throughout the ages mankind’s primary objective remains the same: to keep water out of the shelter. Water is the most aggressive combatant in the fight to protect our structures. Buildings leak for a variety or reasons. This paper will identify some of the most common issues related to the protection of concrete structures from moisture and the host of maladies that accompany it. Common problems will be discussed as well as steps to prevent these problems form occurring. Additionally, effective remedial steps for building structures that are experiencing moisture related problems are discussed.
