Lead Stabilizing Additives: from Theory to Implementation

Theodore Hopwood II, P.E.

Mr. Hopwood is a research engineer associate at the Kentucky Transportation Center, a research center attached to the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky. He obtained a BS degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Kentucky in 1969 and an MS degree in Metallurgy at the University of Kentucky in 1975. He previously held positions in private industry and with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. He has been employed at the Transportation Center since 1981. Mr. Hopwood has been in coatings research for 20 years. He has worked on a wide variety of transportation research topics including coatings development and testing, corrosion analysis and prevention, environmental issues, facilities management, nondestructive testing, maintenance practices and project development. He has conducted several research studies related to the disposal/recycling of residues and wastewater generated during bridge maintenance painting operations.

Victor Pallotta

Mr. Pallotta is an officer of Advanced Recycling Systems, specializing in the design and manufacture of abrasive blasting/vacuuming/recycling and dust collector equipment. ARS was founded in 1991 and, with over 150 machines in service, ARS continually seeks to improve the design and safe operation of equipment used in recyclable abrasive blasting and dust collection. ARS equipment can be found at bridges, shipyards and industrial/construction sites throughout North America. Vic has significant hands-on experience in the surface preparation and dust collection fields and work directly with SSPC Representatives and customers to advance the industry as a whole.

Advanced Recycling Systems has been an active SSPC member since 1992.

Don Evans
