Prompted by requests from Specifiers and Steel Shop Fabricators, a Non-Zinc coating has been developed that has attained a Class B Slip Coefficient rating and therefore can be applied to faying surfaces of slip-critical bolted connections. Results show that this product offers fast dry times and excellent corrosion resistance. Additional benefits, such as a year-long recoat window, predictable recoat times, faster dry times, a wide choice of topcoats, and ease of application, provide significant cost savings for the fabricator over conventional Class B rated zinc rich primers. The introduction of a non-zinc product provides additional flexibility for the steel fabricators as well as a less expensive alternative for the Architect, Engineer, and Construction Manager.
