Abstract
In order to ensure the proper lifetime and performance of a coating for mass production, minimization of defects is required. Although some defects are unavoidable, developing an understanding of root cause and propagation of common defects is key to reducing their number and ensuring the success of the coating for commercial applications. In this talk, several case studies analyzing coating defects will be discussed. We will showcase the use of advanced analytical tools to correlate defect initiation and propagation with coating performance. The methods outlined in this talk will highlight best practices for fundamental understanding of coatings and their defects to provide insight which can be applied to the development of the next generation of coatings with improved performance.
Learning objectives:
Showcase specific debilitating coating defects through a series of case studies.
Utilize advanced analytical tools to analyze these defects and their propagation.
Highlight best practices for fundamental understanding of coatings and their defects to apply to the next generation of coatings
