Abstract
Rapid return-to-service, improved coating durability, and environmental concerns are major driving forces in today's coating landscape. Coatings that are easier to handle, dry-faster, and last longer provide benefits that speed operation efficiencies and improve overall costs. Ambient-cured coatings available today, that offer fast cure and weatherability, include polyurethanes, polyaspartics, waterborne acrylics, and polysiloxanes. Growing environmental concerns have driven new developments into non-isocyanate coating technologies (NISO, NIPU). With the emergence of new technologies and coatings, it is beneficial to compare the various fast-curing, weatherable technologies for cure speed, pot life, ultra-violet (UV) resistance, and other physical properties.
Four topics will be addressed:
Today's coating landscape and trends as it relates to fast-cure weatherable coatings
Overview of technology available that offer high performance and fast-cure.
Understanding of new technologies (NISO, NIPU) that address fast return-to-service
Review and comparison of weathering, corrosion, and physical performance
