Traditional water treatment methods pose several challenges to large-vessel preservation. The economics of continuous dosing and environmental restrictions concerning the disposal of treated water need to be considered. One solution to these challenges involves the application of an immiscible corrosion inhibiting oil partition on the water surface (henceforth referred to as a “float coat”). This paper will highlight challenges of traditional preservation methods and examine the efficacy of one commercial float coat (henceforth referred to as “Product A”).
