The natural gas transmission pipeline that is the subject of this paper is routed through South Texas where cathodic protection levels can vary significantly throughout the year because of soil moisture changes. Recurrent pipe-to-soil potential measurements indicating possibly ineffective corrosion control prompted further assessment relative to pipeline integrity management and regulatory compliance. This paper discusses the use of precision electrical resistance type corrosion rate probes and remote monitoring of the probe corrosion rate in conjunction with various channels of electrical data to determine/document conditions and establish a suitable path forward.
