The open recirculating cooling water system is one of main systems to cool process equipment in a chemical plant. The objective of cooling water system management is to maintain good water quality and ensure a stable supply cooling water to the plant. The quality of the cooling water is affected by the source of the raw water and the environment, so close control of water chemistry is very important. The use of electrochemical noise (EN) instrumentation for this application is effective because it is highly responsive and is more convenient for on-site measurement than other corrosion monitoring methods. In this study, the use and benefits of the EN instrumentation are demonstrated for monitoring water quality in open recirculating cooling water systems.
