Abstract
DC interference of cathodic protection systems on adjacent buried pipelines is a big threat to pipeline integrity. In northwest China, a pigging station on a natural gas pipeline has been reconstructed and expanded to be a compressor station. Some newly buried pipelines and grounding metal were too close to the existing impressed-current anode for the main line outside the station. As a result, typical DC interference of the cathodic protection system was observed. In order to protect the pipelines buried in the station, a regional cathodic protection system was applied, and the outcome was satisfactory.
