Abstract
End-users are constantly seeking flexibility with corrosion protection in order to maximize productivity without compromising on performance. One of the drawbacks to current industry standard technologies is that the films left on the metal surface after application of the rust preventives are waxy or oily. These waxy or oily films can be easily damaged and require special handling to provide maximum protection. A dry-to-touch waterborne rust preventive was developed based on an acrylic resin that allows for more rigorous handling. Accelerated corrosion testing was conducted with the acrylic rust preventive in order to evaluate the performance. The acrylic-based rust preventive gives a tenacious barrier film that provides excellent corrosion protection.
