Abstract
Sustainability is a key aspect for innovating new microbial control treatments in gas and oil water treatment applications. In this study, several new glutaraldehyde-based formulations have been developed with ingredients that are synergistic with glutaraldehyde and complement the favorable environmental toxicity profile of glutaraldehyde, such as being readily biodegradable; thus, the new combinations have a lower environmental footprint. The new formulations have been shown to improve the biocidal efficacy of glutaraldehyde against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in both planktonic and biofilm life styles. In addition, the new glutaraldehyde-based formulations have improved product compatibility with application environments and other chemical additives in injection water, fracturing fluids, and production fluids.
