Abstract
Due to increasingly corrosive feedstocks, high nickel alloy castings are finding increased usage in refinery applications. Leakage problems have been encountered in these applications as a result of casting defects. Destructive and non-destructive test techniques were utilized to determine the cause of the failures. Advanced methods such as casting simulation, hot isostatic pressing and acoustic emission testing were explored. Recommendations are made for improved castings to prevent future problems.
