Abstract
Austenitic Stainless Steels (ASS) owns their name and applications to the phenomena of passivity. They have assumed status of a special class of materials for a variety of applications because of their excellent combination of properties at high temperature, fabric ability and possessing high corrosion resistance coupled with cost effectiveness. The paper presents some special stainless steels to combat corrosion, where the ASS fails. This can be evaluated using polarization studies in oxidizing and reducing environments. Results are also correlated with those of AC Impedance Surface Analysis studies.
