A water flood program is required for Kuwait's Northern and Western fields to maintain reservoir pressures. The program requires large amounts of aquifer and effluent injection water, treated with oil field chemicals. The treatment chemicals consist of corrosion inhibitors, scale inhibitors, and biocides. A laboratory performance evaluation was conducted on four corrosion inhibitors in combination with scale inhibitors and biocides, to determine the influence of these other chemicals on the effectiveness of the corrosion inhibitor. The results indicated that in many cases there was an improvement in corrosion inhibition on addition of the scale inhibitor but there was generally a reduction in inhibition on addition of the biocide. The testing enabled the selection of the best corrosion inhibitor, scale inhibitor, and biocide combination in both sweet and sour waters.
