Abstract
Concealed from the properly trained personnel, pyrophoric materials present within process streams in the petrochemical industry can tally up cost of damaged parts and equipments well to millions of dollars. This paper will discus aspects of pyrophoric materials that can manifest and conceal it self form the novice knowledge of the chemical and petrochemical plants. Key learning points will be highlighted along with a case study is presented involving pyrophoric materials and the danger it poses to personnel and plants assets. Discussion will include mechanism of formation and the sequence of equipment failure. Proper isolation and disposal and the safety involved will be highlighted.
