The inhibition of thiosulphate pitting in 304L stainless steel with bicarbonate was investigated using laboratory scratch testing at constant potentials. It was found that 300 ppm bicarbonate ion provided substantial inhibition of thiosulphate pitting of 304L in papermaking environments at 50°C.
