Abstract
AC interference from high voltage transmission lines need to be taken into consideration while designing either a new pipeline in an existing power transmission line corridor or when installing high voltage power lines near the right of way of an existing metallic pipeline. AC interference mitigation must be provided to eliminate safety hazards and to maintain the integrity of the pipeline. These mitigation measures have influence on the cathodic protection design. A cathodic protection design engineer should carefully study and evaluate AC mitigation systems and include these measures in cathodic protection design estimations. A unified design approach should be taken to integrate the cathodic protection and the AC interference mitigation design.
