Abstract
A standard inert gas fusion method was optimized for the measurement of hydrogen in U-6wt%Nb. Analytical parameters including blank measurements with and without flux, sample cleaning with and without nitric acid, and sample size ranging from 0.5 to 3 g were investigated. Both an outgassed U-6wt%Nb blank reference and hydrogen-charged samples of 2.8 ppm and 5.1 ppm were measured using the optimized analytical method. Finally, samples from parts were measured and compared to hydrogen-charged references.
