A new chemical family of corrosion inhibitors has been discovered1. These products were designed for and synthesized as green corrosion inhibitors to mitigate corrosion in the presence of hydrogen sulfide, wet sulfur, and carbon dioxide. Fifteen new corrosion inhibitors were developed from this family and screened for efficacy as corrosion inhibitors by HT/HP exposure tests under sour conditions. The three best corrosion inhibitors were selected and were subjected to a battery of tests for use as water-soluble low toxicity chemicals for sweet and sour gas conditions. One corrosion inhibitor, which is highly biodegradable and with low bioaccumulation was selected as the best inhibitor for sweet and sour gas production. This chemical is an excellent biocide.
