Abstract
The properties of 6Mo super austenitic stainless steels are discussed with special attention for structure stability, mechanical properties and weldability. These grades have a PREN value (Cr + 3.3Mo + 16N) higher than 42 and contain more than 20Cr% and 0.2 to 0.4N%. Then, the results of corrosion tests performed in chloride containing acidic media and including electrochemical data are presented and discussed. According to their excellent corrosion resistance 6Mo grades are one of the best solutions for severe conditions encountered in chemical industry, flue gas desulfurisation (FGD) process and hydrometallurgy.
