Abstract
The influence of a plastic deformation on the electrochemical behaviour of inclusions-containing stainless steels was investigated on a microscopic scale using the electrochemical microcell technique. The polarisation curves were determined in 1.5M NaCl, pH3 on sites of 100 µm diameter containing either the pure matrix or the matrix with a single MnS inclusion and in presence of microcracks. Initiation of metastable and stable pits was discussed according to the morphology of microcracks and the size of the inclusions.
