Corrosion inhibitors that are classified as ‘green’ have been developed that prevent corrosion under high shear conditions. The products developed are in the ‘gold’ band of the United Kingdom CHARM HQ model and in the ‘yellow’ band of the Norwegian environmental classification system i.e. the products are in most environmentally friendly categories. High shear corrosion inhibitor performance was evaluated in the laboratory using the kettle test, rotating cylinder electrode, high shear autoclave and also the jet impingement apparatus. Laboratory results indicate that the new ‘green’ products offer excellent corrosion protection and are suitable for use in high shear environments. Brief details of the UK and Norwegian environmental regulations are also given.
