Abstract
A comparative internal corrosion direct assessment methodology for flowlines, termed 'C-ICDA', is introduced. Under the C-ICDA, factors influencing corrosion in a flowline are assessed to determine a comparative corrosion severity rating. Assessment of multiple lines in a field results in a ranking of flowlines by corrosion severity. A subset of lines is inspected to validate the ranking of corrosion ratings and calibrate the ratings to measured wall loss.
The flowlines in a 25 year-old oil production field are examined using the C-ICDA methodology. The results show that severe internal corrosion in these lines is the result of ineffective water transport during past operation.
