Abstract
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey installed trial galvanic cathodic protection systems on reinforced concrete support structures at La Guardia Airport. The trial cathodic protection systems included zinc hydrogel, thermally sprayed zinc, zinc mesh, and thermally sprayed aluminum-zinc-indium anodes. The trial systems were installed on reinforced concrete structures under the runways at La Guardia Airport. The trial systems have been evaluated for several years to determine the best system or systems for use in the severe marine environment at La Guardia Airport. The evaluations provided specific information regarding the effectiveness and durability of the four types of trial cathodic protection systems in the severe La Guardia Airport environment.
