Abstract
Results of immersion tests are often used in selecting structural materials for corrosive applications. This may be dangerous if the effects of varying impurities are not fully assessed. The assessment could be difficult to achieve from results of immersion tests. Results of electrochemical tests can be used to complement results of immersion tests in lowering the danger in the selection process. Examples are given to describe the usefulness of electrochemical measurements in evaluating corrosion resistant alloys. Also, preventing measures have been developed from electrochemical data.
