Aging infrastructure, increasing regulations, and decreasing budgets are driving the development of pipeline integrity programs throughout the industry. An essential part of any pipeline integrity program is risk assessment, which provides a means of prioritizing equipment and resources. This paper reviews some of the pipeline risk assessment efforts throughout upstream operations and discusses results and lessons learned. This includes: an overview of the risk assessment process, discussion of data gathering and recordkeeping procedures, a discussion of the assessment deliverables, and how the risk assessment process contributes to the annual business plan.
