Abstract
The effect of heat treatment and tin content on corrosion of Zirconium 702 (R60702) in sulfuric acid was studied. The effect of second phase particles on corrosion resistance of zirconium in sulfuric acid is explained. The benefit of heat treatment is examined. Heat treatments included treatment at 625°C for 1 hour, 2 hours, and 4 hours; 700°C for 1 hour and 2 hours; 770°C for 1 hour; and 788°C for 0.5 hours. Tin variables were 2400-ppm tin and 1400-ppm tin. An updated 5-mpy (0.127 mm/y) isocorrosion curve for Zirconium 702 in sulfuric acid is presented.
