Effective cooling water treatment performance using more robust chemistries is fundamental for the industrial water systems of today. Water conservation efforts are requiring that towers operate at higher cycles, with increased contaminants, and thus creating more severe cooling conditions from a treatment perspective. At the same time, environmental concerns are forcing industry to re-examine their cooling treatment choices. Chemistries with improved toxicity profiles are preferred, as are those which are also efficacious at significantly reduced dosages, so that less material is discharged to the neighboring environment. Laboratory data for a novel phosphate inhibitor was previously disclosed, which addressed all of the above requirements. This paper will highlight three pertinent field studies which validate the superiority of this new calcium phosphate inhibitor.
