The application of the 100 mv polarization criteria for aboveground storage tanks will be discussed. Experience has shown that using the 100 mv “formation” method to prove protective levels is often misused. Existing large bulk storage tanks along with new or double bottom tanks and release prevention barriers (RPB’s) create unique circumstances for use of the 100mv criteria. The problems and solutions for application of the 100 mv criteria for tanks bottoms will be discussed.
