Abstract
In order to prevent the formation of wax and hydrates during the transportation of produced fluids from deepwater wells; flowlines and risers need to be insulated. The correct choice of insulation material needs to consider both the proposed pipe installation method as well as the operational requirements that will be encountered during the life of the pipeline. This paper will explore the thermal and mechanical issues that need to be considered in order to provide an appropriate technical solution for deepwater fields.
