Abstract
Fireside corrosion shortens the service life of tubes in coal-fired and oil-fired boilers. Waterwall and superheater/reheater tubes may experience substantial wall loss as a result of fireside corrosion. Waterwall tube failures due to fireside corrosion are less common than failure of superheater/reheater tubes. Therefore, comments respective to waterwall tube failures are addressed only in the introduction section of this paper. Mechanisms of failures involving fireside corrosion of superheaters/reheaters are presented as Case Studies using actual laboratory analysis data. Available approaches to minimize fireside corrosion of superheaters/reheaters are reviewed.
