Abstract
This presentation provides a brief overview of major advances in our understanding of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) made during the twentieth century and the author’s opinion as to what should be done at the beginning of the twenty-first century to further advance our understanding of MIC and our ability to prevent and treat this important corrosion mechanism.
