Abstract
A series of crevice corrosion tests have been conducted on UNS stainless steel S31603 and two “20Cr-6Mo” alloys in four different seawater environments. The purpose of these tests was to compare alloy resistance to deaerated and stagnant seawater versus aerated seawater. Testing was also performed in chlorinated seawater to complement the types of environments which may be found in power plants and other seawater systems. S31603 was found to be most susceptible in slowly moving refreshed (aerated) seawater. The “20Cr-6Mo” alloys showed no different in crevice corrosion resistance in any of the four seawater variations examined.
