Abstract
The use of volatile corrosion inhibitor (VCI) paper materials for protection of ferrous parts has been standard practice for years. Periodically, failures have occurred on various component parts with no apparent explanation. A failure analysis was performed on 20mm ammunition and residual chlorine was found to be present. This paper identifies the potential source of the halogen contamination.
