Abstract
Alloy selection is described for structural elements of advanced hot gas cleaning systems used to filter particulates from process gas produced by pressurized fluidized bed coal combustion (PFBC), and coal and biomass gasification. Service environments are identified. Essential components of a typical gas filtering system are described. Material considerations are outlined for particular service conditions and particular hardware. Elevated temperature creep strength, and resistance to thermal fatigue, oxidation, carburization, corrosion and erosion are discussed for a number of components functioning in distinct service applications. Performance experience is reported for several alloys.
