This paper is one of the chapters that will be in the Training Manual to be produced by NACE International’s Task Group T-8-17 (Refinery Corrosion Training). This particular chapter deals with the use of corrosion inhibitors. The objectives of the chapter are to give a brief review of the causes of low temperature, aqueous corrosion and some of the ways that the corrosion can be abated with the proper use of chemicals. The discussion of the types of chemicals used and the application methods employed will be, of necessity, very general in this chapter; discussions specific to individual units will be included in separate chapters on each unit or process. The references included is not meant to be all inclusive; rather it refers the reader to articles that give good additional background and/or coverage of this area of corrosion.
