Abstract
There has been increasing concern regarding the toxicity, biodegradability, and bioaccumulation of oilfield chemicals which are discharged into the environment from off-shore production platforms. Several new chemicals which display substantially improved environmental properties have been developed to remedy this situation without compromising performance. The development and application of these inhibitors are discussed with particular reference to the European North Sea.
