Abstract
Carburization resistance of numerous heat resistant alloys has been evaluated in equilibrated atmospheres having a wide range of oxygen potentials. This paper attempts to characterize and explain alloy performance in these simulated fossil fuel environments on the basis of alloy content and scale characteristics and discusses means of further improvements in performance. A survey of current information regarding scale characteristics of wrought nickel-base alloys is also presented.
