Corrosion is one of the great causes of accidents and economic losses in petroleum and petrochemical industries1 . Crude unit overheads are one of the most corrosion affected parts and large amounts of work and money has been spent on its control and prevention. Thus, new materials, inhibitors and monitoring techniques are constantly under testing in order to improve corrosion prevention and plant reliability. Expert Systems are a rising technology in industrial process monitoring and problem diagnosing. This sort of computer program is developed trying to simulate the human expert intelligent behavior in the task of solving a specific problem. The crude units overhead corrosion control is a hard and time consuming task that seems to be a fruitful field to expert systems application.
