Abstract

The coming of the computer age has increased the ability to analyze data that could only be envisioned on mainframe computers ten years ago. This ability to discern trends from various sources, including refinery process utilities operations in general, is discussed based on the data generated from a refinery in the Gulf Coast area. This analysis allowed the plant to make informed decisions concerning practical levels of treatment for the cooling towers. Other examples of the correlation between the operational data and the change in plant operations are discussed.
