Abstract
The user-friendliness and the accuracy of various methods to calculate corrosion rates in sweet gas production tubing was evaluated by comparing the predictions with results of mechanical caliper surveys, weightloss coupons and time to tubing leaks. It is concluded that the physical conditions in the wells in terms of liquid water presence and flow regimes are modeled adequately. The corrosion rates are generally exaggerated by the predictions. The most important factors influencing the corrosion are discussed as are the usefulness of caliper inspections and weightloss coupons to monitor corrosion. Experience with internal plastic coatings and batch inhibition is reported.
