Abstract
A number of cost-optimized, high-performance titanium alloys and products have been recently developed for severely corrosive hot aqueous halide and reducing acid service environments. These developments basically include: 1) lower-cost versions of the classic Ti-Pd alloy, 2) Pd- or Ru-enhanced moderate-to-high strength alpha-beta and beta titanium alloys with expanded resistance to high temperature brines, and 3) a family of roll-bonded composite reactive metal plate products with dramatically lower cost than conventional solid specialty titanium alloy, zirconium, Ni-Cr-Mo, and Ni-Mo alloy plate for constructing chemical process equipment and components. An overview of the corrosion performance, relative cost, and candidate applications of these new titanium alloys and products is provided.
