Instrumentation has been developed for rapid data acquisition and processing of the potential transient response to a galvanostatic pulse. This has been designed to be employed as a site method for the corrosion evaluation of steel reinforcement in concrete structures. Details of the technique are presented, together with experimental results from electronic circuits, test solutions, and specimens of steel in concrete. Results obtained were comparable with those from AC impedance tests, but the galvanostatic pulse technique gave better resolution of time constants, and the measurement time required was much shorter.
